Finland has ordered all bars and restaurants to close at 1 a.m. starting October 8 to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.
“The information provided by authorities is alarming…The number of infections is rising rapidly”, family affairs and social services minister Krista Kiuru said on Tuesday.
The bars have also been ordered to stop alcohol sales at midnight. Kiuru added that local authorities would have the right to order restaurants and bars to end alcohol sales earlier.
The country has so far recorded 9,892 infections and 345 deaths. It has recorded 1,016 infections in the latest two weeks ending September 26.
Authorities said that 149 new coronavirus cases had been reported on Tuesday, among the highest daily numbers for several months.
